JEFFERSONVILLE — A pair of second-half goals propelled the Silver Creek girls’ soccer team to a 2-0 win at Jeffersonville on Thursday night.
The match was scoreless for the first 49 minutes before Anna Wright found the net in the 50th minute for the Dragons. Alyssa Wright added another goal 22 minutes later.
“We knew Jeff would give us a tough game. They’ve improved a lot and they were faster than they’ve been in years past,” Silver Creek coach Patrick Anderson said. “We tried to play through the middle too much and they took that away. We made an adjustment at halftime that allowed us to create more space up front and more scoring chances. After we scored, our defense was tested multiple times and they stuck together and made some nice plays. Megan Ekart made a really nice save in goal on a free kick and Sabrina Schmidt cleared another shot that was on its way in. Those were game-changing plays. Our midfield and forwards played really well together to control possession, but we still need to do a better job of being patient. Jeff made us work for everything we got tonight.”
The Dragons (4-1) face South Dearborn at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington. The Red Devils host Providence at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
