In the other semi, the Dragons won four matches — Nos. 2 and 3 singles and both doubles — in straight sets to earn a spot in the final.
At No. 2 singles freshman Grant Miller blanked junior Xavier Coats 6-0, 6-0 while senior Jacob Bishop defeated freshman Dawson Hope 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
“The key in my match for me was making sure I could finish the points out,” Bishop said. “Not making unforced errors.”
At No. 1 doubles seniors Jackson Jacobi and Jack Hawkins downed freshmen Zeraach Coats and Sam Guernsey 6-1, 6-1 while senior Nate Eckert and sophomore Kooper Jacobi combined for a 6-0, 6-1 win over sophomore Drew Lindley and freshman Taylor Guthrie.
The Hornets’ lone win came at No. 1 singles, where senior Kade Badger outlasted Silver Creek senior Jake Teegarden 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a hotly-contested match.
“I just knew that if I lost it was my last one, I didn’t get to play again,” said Badger, who will face LaGrange today in the individual singles tourney. “So it was either all or nothing — might as well go out there and give it everything you’ve got on the court.”
