Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball · Boys Basketball: Dragons Move on to Sectional Final Game

RAMSEY — Silver Creek was all business Friday night in the semifinal round of the Class 3A North Harrison Sectional.

The Dragons used a late first quarter run to grab the lead, then held Scottsburg to a single field goal in the second quarter to pull away.  Three Dragons reached double figures to advance to tonight’s final with a 55-32 victory.

Silver Creek (18-5) will take on North Harrison in tonight’s championship after the Cougars upset Brownstown Central 60-57 in overtime in Friday’s second semifinal. The Dragons, who beat the sectional hosts 42-28 on Dec. 8, are searching for their fourth sectional title in five years. The Cougars, meanwhile, haven’t won one in 22 years.

On Friday, Zane Gross had 12 points and Kooper Jacobi and Bennett Beyl combined for 21, helping the Dragons to the final for the fourth time in five seasons.

“Just a solid night all around,” said Silver Creek coach Brandon Hoffman. “We came out crisp, played good defense and set the tone early and really played pretty well throughout”

The Dragons trailed 8-7 in the first when it went on a quick 9-0 run to grab the lead for good.

Scottsburg found the basket just once in the second quarter and only three times in the third – one of which was inadvertently tipped in by a Dragon on a scrum for a rebound.

“We really were locked in defensively,” Hoffman said. “We keyed in on a couple of guys who had big games recently for (Scottsburg) and really did a nice job defending their offense.”

Seven Dragons scored all together. “I thought our depth really showed tonight,” Hoffman said. “We can run guys in and out all night and coming in off a bye and having that many bodies we can go to was something we can take advantage of.”
