PEKIN —  Silver Creek rolled past host Eastern 70-23 on Friday.

The Dragons held the hosts off the scoreboard for a 10-minute stretch over the first half, rolling to a 24-7 lead at halftime as they moved to 4-0 in the Mid-Southern Conference with the victory.

“We wanted to use our defense and mainly our trap to force mistakes and make things tough on their offense,” Dragon coach Brandon Hoffman said. “We really were able to limit what they could do. We forced some turnovers and got some baskets off of those and really played good defense throughout.”

Zane Gross and Trey Kaufman had 13 points each in the win for the Dragons, who also got double digit scoring from Kooper Jacobi and Jack Hawkins, who each had 10.

“You’re a little unsure how this team is going to come out with such a unique event happening tomorrow,” Hoffman said. “It’s good to see them respond and play focused.”

Today’s game is part of an all-day event known as “Basketball Day Indiana” with the Dragons taking on the Bulldogs at the site of the IHSAA state finals and the home court of the Indiana Pacers.

“I hope more than anything they enjoy the unique experience and appreciate the opportunity,” Hoffman said. “It’s one of those events you get excited to be a part of because not everybody has a chance to take part in it.”

The final highlight Friday was the exclamation point provided by reserve Kobe Coleman, who had two 3s and scored eight points over the final two minutes to set off a celebration among his teammates on the sidelines.

“It’s always great to see a guy who works like he does go out and get action in the game,” Hoffman said. “And you could see it among his teammates how much they enjoyed seeing it as well.”
