Multiple Teams · Boys Tennis: Dragons Edged Out by Pioneers 3-2

Sellersburg — Providence swept the doubles matches and got by visiting Silver Creek 3-2 on Wednesday.

Cullen Ebert and Aaron Agtuca came back from a set down to Sammy Padgett and Jackson Jacobi for a key 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Adam Starr and Carson Carrico also scored a point for the 18th-ranked Pioneers with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Nate Eckert and Jack Hawkins.

“When our doubles play to their potential, then I believe we live up to our state ranking,” Providence coach Scott Gurgol said. “Our partnerships have not played together much, so they should continue to improve with time.”

The other win for Providence came at No. 1 singles where Nick Boesing swept past Jake Teegarden, 6-0 and 6-2.

“Nick is playing high-level tennis,” Gurgol said. “My job is to not allow him to get complacent.”

Silver Creek got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles from Cooper Cundiff and Jacob Bishop, respectively. Both won in straight sets.
