SELLERSBURG — New Albany went on the road and notched a 3-2 win over Silver Creek on Monday.
The Bulldogs (3-0-0) got out to 2-0 halftime lead behind a pair of goals from sophomore Schnaider Upchurch. Hayden Krebs assisted the first tally in the 16th minute and Max Hancock set up the second seven minutes later.
“We were lacking that discipline and intensity for the majority of the game,” Dragons coach Colin Bell said. “Being down three in the second half proved to be too much for us.”
New Albany looked to be in full control when Gabe Kruer made it 3-0 just three minutes into the second half, but the Dragons (0-1-1) battled back.
Keaton Goss’s penalty-kick goal erased the shutout in the 59th minute. Anmol Ghale’s tally made it a 1-goal game with 13 minutes to play.
“I do applaud the team for digging deep at fighting back towards the end,” Bell said. “However, we can’t afford to put ourselves in that position this season.”
Bulldog keeper Erik Kluppleberg was able to keep the Dragons at bay for the rest of the contest.
Before the game, Silver Creek honored former New Albany keeper Jacob Trulock, who died in a hiking accident last spring.
“It was nice to honor a boy such as Jacob,” Bell said. “I could sense the power and impact his life had on everyone that he knew. I felt that it was right thing to do. I know all the New Albany players and coaches appreciated the moment.”
