SELLERSBURG — Silver Creek held visiting Madison without a shot in its 8-0 season-opening win Saturday.
The Dragons (1-0-0) were eager to start the season after Thursday’s game at Floyd Central was postponed because of storms.
“Very good win to open the season,” Silver Creek coach Patrick Anderson said. “I was excited to finally see us on the field for a game. We’ve been working really hard on keeping possession and building our attack and we were able to do that today. Our defense held them to zero shots on goal which was good to see.”
Anderson says the team’s backline is almost entirely new — adding to the impressiveness of the clean sheet.
Maggie Day had four goals and an assist in the win to lead the Dragons (1-0-0). Alyssa Wright had two goals and Ciera May scored once and assisted two of Day’s goals.
“Alyssa Wright got us going offensively and Maggie Day settled down and was able to finish like she’s capable of doing,” Anderson said. “We played very unselfish, especially Ciera May. She passed up a few chances to score and chose to share the ball instead.”
